Gay/Lesbian Studies Major

Gay/Lesbian Studies is a program that focuses on homosexuality in history, society, politics, and cultural life; usually with an emphasis on the modern emergence of gays and lesbians as a sociocultural minority movement, the identification of social, literary, and artistic themes and the definition of, and public policy and legal issues surrounding, the gay and lesbian community.

Gay/Lesbian Studies majors and degree programs are typically interdisciplinary and may vary from institution to institution.  Courses may include the study homosexuality in history, politics, society, and culture.  As well, courses in art, music, politics, psychology, philosophy, and literature will likely be included as part of your gay and lesbian studies.
