Informatics Major

Informatics is a program that focuses on computer systems from a user-centered perspective and studies the structure, behavior and interactions of natural and artificial systems that store, process and communicate information.

Informatics majors and degree programs will cover courses in information sciences, human computer interaction, information system analysis and design, telecommunications structure and information architecture and management.

What can you do with a major/degree in Informatics?

With a four-year degree in this field, you can venture into any number of careers.  Some of the job titles include (but are not limited to) application developer, business process analyst, digital media professional, info tech analyst, info tech project manager.  In addition, with a master’s degree, you may consider multiple jobs in healthcare informatics such as health informatics director, health informatics consultant, clinical data analyst, health information resource manager, chief medical information officer, health information system application designer, and compliance officer.

Professional associations are groups of professionals dedicated to topics in specific fields. Professional associations provide a wealth of online resources, some of which are geared specifically towards students. These organizations typically also host conferences and events, providing great opportunities for learning and networking across your field of interest.
