Civil Engineering Major

A major/degree in Civil Engineering, General will prepare individuals to apply mathematical and scientific principles to the design, development and operational evaluation of structural, load bearing, material moving, transportation, water resource, and material control systems, and environmental safety measures.

Includes instruction in math courses, such as linear algebra, differential equations, probability, and statistics.  A large amount of time will include instruction in engineering courses such as structural analysis, geotechnical engineering, transportation systems, properties and behavior of engineering materials, elementary mechanics of fluids, elements of hydraulic engineering, and environmental engineering.

What can you do with a major/degree in Civil Engineering, General?

As a civil engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining society’s infrastructure.  Your tasks will likely include ensuring safe construction, operation, and maintenance of structures (roads, bridges, buildings, dams).
